Yoga For Pelvic
Health Workshop
When: Saturday 26 September, 10am-12pm
Where: The Gallery, Lifecare Centre,
2 Cheyne St, Stockbridge, EH4 1JB
Cost: £50
Join Pelvic Health Physiotherapist Karen Edwards (Bsc Hons, AHPC, HCPC, MCSP) and Senior Yoga Teacher and Perinatal Corrective Exercise Specialist Fern Ross (E-RYT 500, FEDANT) for a morning of movement and education that will transform your pelvic floor.
Most of us only think about our pelvic floor during the perinatal period, when we’re given the Squeezy app and told to do our kegels, but never shown how to do them properly or how to fully relax.
Our pelvic floors are so much more nuanced than that, and we deserve better…
Our pelvic floors are influenced by, and change with:
* Hormones
* Life stages
* Breathing mechanics
* Posture
One size (or app) doesn’t fit all, and you deserve more…
Our pelvic floor functions differently during the seasons of our life, from our teenage years and the perinatal period, to perimenopause and menopause. So let’s learn how we can support ourselves better throughout the various seasons of our lives.
If you’ve ever leaked during exercise, feel pressure ‘down there’, hold tension without knowing how to properly relax, find s*x painful, suffer from endometriosis or hypermobility, then this workshop is for you.
During this two-hour workshop we’ll cover:
*Pelvic floor anatomy and function
* Common pelvic floor conditions such as incontinence, prolapse, painful s*x and how to manage them
* How your hormones impact your pelvic floor and how you can support this
* How conditions like endometriosis and hypermobility impact your pelvic floor
* The key role your diaphragm plays in healthy pelvic floor function
* Yoga poses, breathing and relaxation techniques to both release tension and rebuild functional strength And so much more valuable information and practical techniques that will support you every day…
The workshop will be a safe and private space (what’s said in the room, stays in the room!), where you are welcome to share your own experience if you are comfortable. There will be plenty of time for questions with both Karen and Fern after the session, plus tea and home baking will also be provided.
We can’t wait to share this morning of yoga and pelvic health with you. Spaces are limited so book your spot now!
About Your Teachers
Karen Edwards, Pelvic Health Physiotherapist (Bsc Hons, AHPC, HCPC, MCSP) and Founder of Physio Core and Floor
I’m Karen, a pelvic health physiotherapist with over 20 years of experience in urology, urogynaecological and obstetric physiotherapy.
I have been working as a Physiotherapist for 26 years. My career began in the National Health Service in 2000, where I worked in a variety of clinical areas, gaining experience in community, hospital acute and rehabilitation settings.I then developed my interest in urology further, travelling to and working in a large New Zealand teaching hospital.
I returned to Scotland where I set up the first Urology Physiotherapy department in the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. I spent the next 10 years developing pathways of care for female and male patients with continence issues that required conservative therapy alongside consultant care. This included neurological patients with continence issues secondary to their MS and Parkinson’s disease, and also prostate cancer multi-disciplinary pre- and post-op continence, and erectile dysfunction care.
I moved to Singapore in 2016, where I ran my own successful private clinic before returning home to Scotland in 2022. I now run Physio Core and Floor in Blackhall, Edinburgh. This clinic is the culmination of all my clinical experience to date, providing clear, evidence-based, experienced Pelvic Health Physiotherapy to my female, male and paediatric clients. I am passionate about the benefits of Pelvic Health Physiotherapy and how it can improve the quality of life for so many.
Outside work, I am married and have a teenager about to head off to university, and I enjoy singing, travelling and walking my dog, Kota.
About Your Teachers
Fern Ross, Senior Yoga Teacher (ERYT 500), Perinatal Corrective Exercise Specialist, FEDANT-accredited Birth Educator
I’m Fern: yoga teacher, birth educator, pre- and postnatal movement specialist and mum of two beautiful boys (and our dog Polly).
Yoga and movement are a way of life for me: they bring me joy, purpose and support me through the ups and downs we all have to navigate.
My practice has supported me through many highs and lows: from anxiety and depression; career changes (I was a journalist and editor for over a decade prior to making the switch to teaching yoga full time in 2016); knee surgeries and slipped discs; to pregnancy, postpartum and the rollercoaster that is parenthood.
I’ve been teaching yoga since 2015, and practising since my early twenties (I first stepped on the mat in a council gym in north London - I was working on a national newspaper at the time), and I’m passionate about anatomy and physiology, mental health and women’s health. I specialise in vinyasa, hatha, pre and postnatal yoga. I suffered a prolapse after the birth of my first son in 2019, hence my passion for all things pelvic health, and weave what I’ve learnt from my own study and personal recovery into my classes.
My classes fuse modern movement science with the ancient wisdom of yoga, and it’s my mission to offer you nourishing, embodied and empowering practices that support your own path of self-enquiry, encouraging you to meet yourself where you’re at physically and mentally.
